Welcome
't Scheepsfolk a maritime folk music group originally from North Holland and Friesland, can often be found playing and singing on traditional wooden
sailing ships or on the harbor wall.
The group is made up of four permanent crewmembers, all of who began their
journey over the world’s great oceans in the straits of Texel, the most
southerly island off the north coast of Holland.
The songs are sung in traditional style, ballads and sea shanties tell stories
about the difficult and sometimes dangerous and exciting times aboard ship.
It’s all about the fishing, the Zuiderzee, the longing of the seaman for the
soft touch of a sweetheart ashore, for the comforts of home, the VOC, the
beautiful life in the Far East, but also about storms and wild seas. You will
be transported back in time, onboard an old sailing clipper, to feel the
atmosphere of times long gone.
The muster roll is full with a rich repertoire of songs from Holland, France
and England. Accordion, guitar, bodhran, tin whistle, flute, wooden percussion,
harmonica and bones accompany their authentic songs.
